Hello to all,
I have been lurking for a while and just reading a lot. Last year I picked up a Craftex B2229 from an older gentlemen that didn't use but instead it just got dirty and a little rusty (surface). I am limited to space but need to use both operations (milling very light). Have been cleaning it up and working to improve it as well as making a few parts for my motor bikes. As soon as I can post some pics I will
Also have plans to make some changes to it with a DC motor and variable...

Anyone Identify This Machine?

Hey guys, I came across a 3 in 1 listed on Craigslist and I'm having trouble identifying the manufacturer and model. It seems the wife of the owner is actually the one selling it and she doesn't email/text and her english isn't great so you get the issue. I'm guessing it's a Smithy but I don't know a ton about 3 in 1 machines. Anyone steer me in the right direction?

Tool block above center

I have a Central Machine 3 in 1. The tool block holds the carbide tools slightly above lathe center. It is one of the 4 way rotating blocks that came with the (used) machine. Is it possible to disassemble the tool holder, remove a little bit of the base, and if so, should the cutters be centered or a little below center? Or is this normal and I need to deal with it another way?

Btw, I am strictly an amateur. This may or may not make sense. But someone must have had the same problem....

Problems threading on a 3 in 1 machine

Has anyone had any threading problems on their 3 in 1 machine? I am having problems threading as the existing threads that I have cut are being cut away on proceeding passes. I chucked a piece of HRS in the lathe chuck which extends about 1 1/2 inches from the face. I took a skim cut to make sure the stock was round. Set up the compound at 29 1/2 degrees, made sure that the cutter was square to the work and chuck. Marked the stock with an indicator mark to see if stock was slipping in...

Hi everyone. Been a busy few months but I've had some play-time in the shop the last week.
Two quick items in the 3:1 forum.

1) The new Shopmaster looks pretty neat and was recently lowered by $1000.... Wondered what anything thought of this new design. www.shopmasterusa.com Anyone here have one?

2) My 2010 patriot is still humming fine- But suffers from the usual lack of rigidity. I have done a few things and I'm happy with the...

Found this forum and have an old 3 in 1 I bought used in the late '90s for a project. It has sat covered for many years but I am intent on resurrecting and de-rusting it. Ran it to cut a groove for my son's 'water rocket launcher' and it worked great!

From ShopMaster's website it appears I have a 12-22TC but it could be a Smithy knock-off:

Once I get at building my 18" gauge railroad around the property I plan...

Dad's Smithy

Hello all!

New member, just signed up.

My dad passed away recently, and I inherited his Smithy CB 122o XL and a small Craftsman lathe. He was a physicist, and 30+ years ago we used to make engine balancers and test equipment in his machine shop. He taught me how to use a lathe, a vertical mill, and to weld. It was a blast! Then I had to go to college and get into computers....

Now I've ended up with his Smithy and the little Craftsman lathe I learned on (and a lot of aluminum and...

Hi Ya'll - i have a 3 in 1 machine and now have a forum to discuss setup, tooling, etc for people with smaller lathe / milling machines - Is anyone else working with a 3 in 1 machine? If so, how does setup and tooling differ from the "big boys". Now we can discuss these topics here.
Thanks to the administrators for adding this topic selection for me.:anyone::thanks:

Smithy Machines

Hello all
Does anyone out there have any exp with the Smithy Machines. I am looking at there MI409 Mill and 1340 Lathe.
I have looked at a lot of machines but I have not come across anyone using a smithy. Are they really made in the USA?
How does a 3 in 1 machine stand up against dedicated machines.

Any input would be helpfull good or bad.

Thanks

Hello good people! I have been coming to the forum for a a few days now looking for some troubleshooting tips and I had to sign up. I own a force international at-300-2 3 in 1 lathe/mill/drill. Its one of those machine made by a bunch of manufacturers. This machine is older but a littler beefier then the new ones available having MT4/MT3 tapers and 3/4 HP with auto feed metric and standard threading.

Like a lot of these machines it appears the POs neglected it, and probably didn't even know...

Moving A 3 In 1 Machine

Hi All,
I'm hoping to buy a 1996 Shop Task 1720 xmtc for $400. I can't seem to find any manual or tips regarding lifting it. Can I use straps around the mill and a engine lift to move it into my truck? What should I disassemble before moving it? Thanks everyone in advance.

Smithy 409 Mill

Does anyone have or have used the 409 mill? I am considering the Smithy Granite IMax 3 in 1 but, if I did not go that route I am considering the Smithy 409 mil and a Grizzly G0750 lathe. As I have indicted I have a special built in my garage but, it is only 8' x 10'. I think I can go with either the combination or individual machines.

Hi guys, and thank you in advance for your expertise.

I'm just getting into lathe and mill work (I've done a little on friends machines), but I've just taken a 3 year contract position here on Guam.

My "shop" is 1/2 of a 2 car garage.

I mainly work on firearms, but occasionally small engines as well (no automobile work while I'm here). I definitely need the ability to cut threads.

I think a combo machine is really the only thing that will give me what I want in such a small space, but...

Hi everyone.
I recently aquired a Smithy Granite 1324 3-1. I need help-if anyone can do that-in telling me how to break down the machine for moving it. I was told I could remove 4 bolts and the alignment pins and the mill/drill head will lift right off but, I tried that and it just seems like it does not want to break free.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You

Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing a Smithy 1324 Granite Max but my space is limited. I emailed Smithy and received a less than complete answer to my questions so hopefully someone here can provide the answers.

Can someone tell me the max height to the top of the spindle cover when the mill head is cranked all the way up. The manual says 39" and I am height limited.

Also, does the mill head swivel 180 degrees, or just 90 and can it swivel forwards or just back to get it out of the way. I'm also...

Bolton BT800 and AT750 difference?

Hello, up front, I have zero machining experience. Not even back in high school. I have watched some youtube videos, and I know some of the things that I want to do with a lathe and a mill/drill. Currently, all I have is a drill press and an off brand dremel. And a bench grinder.

I am seriously looking at getting a 3 in 1 ... I have read all the caveats about them lacking rigidity in the mill, irritation changing modes, poor accuracy compared to industrial machines used by...
